Badalona, across the River Besòs from the city of Barcelona, was settled by the Romans in the year 100 B.C. and is one of the oldest towns in northeastern Spain. Today it is a vibrant city of more than 200,000, boasting five kilometres of beach front and an exceptional Mediterranean climate. Known throughout Spain as the “Bressol de Basquetbol” (the Cradle of Basketball), numerous basketball courts and facilities—both indoor and outdoor—can be found in all parts of the city. And its local populace rabidly support their local ACB team—Joventut de Badalona, perennial league championship contenders and developers of some of the finest basketball talent in all of Europe.
The camp will be held in the new “European Capital of Basketball” (inaugurated in October 2008), an area dedicated to the sport of basketball which includes nine courts, (both indoor and outdoor), a swimming pool, an interactive basketball museum, a 4,500 square metre gymnasium, and nearby shops. Next-door is the Olympic Arena of Badalona, where you will also have the opportunity of practicing and competing. This arena was built for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and had the privilege of showcasing the one-and-only Dream Team USA of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, and other great NBA all-stars.
The camp will be directed by Marc Calderon, coach of Club Joventut Badalona, where he has trained such outstanding international players as Rudy Fernández and Ricky Rubio, among others. At present, players from all over the world make up the club’s various junior teams, and Joventut is considered by many to be home of one of the best youth team programmes in Europe. Marc Calderon has twice won Spanish championships with players like the before mentioned Rudy and Ricky and has 13 years of experience coaching in different levels of the club.
The camp coaching staff will be made up of top level coaches from Spain, the majority of them working with Joventut Badalona. The two- and three-week camps are open to boys and girls at all skill levels between the ages of 13 and 17.
Training will be in the afternoons from Monday to Friday, and it will cover various aspects of the game:
- Technique: shooting, passing, rebounding
- Physical training
- Tactics: individual and team
- Competitions: individual and team
